Tri-Cities Fever News Release
Tri Cities Fever 2016 QB battle is shaping up to be one of the most important battles in all of camp. For the first time since 2011 the Fever will be without Houston Lillard under center.
Starting the last 5 games in 2015, Dominic Blackman showed signs of being a very solid QB for the Fever. In 5 games Blackmon threw for 426 yards and 8 touchdowns, He also rushed for 157 yards. "Dom coming into the middle of the season is always tough to have a complete understanding of the offense as well as defenses your seeing. Now he will be able to have a full training camp." said Offensive Coordinator Brian Schmidt.
Patrick McCain played the second half vs Sioux Falls. He passed for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns and also rushed for 61 yards and 1 touchdown. Coach Schmidt said "Patrick has great athletic ability and what I could see on film is great moxie and confidence."
Rounding out the QB position is veteran QB Hunter Wanket. Hunter is no stranger to the IFL as he started the first 6 games for the Bemidji Axemen in 2014. He threw for 805 yards and 14 touchdowns. Hunter was named IFL Offensive Player of the week for Week 4. "Hunter has had success at every stop but has not had the opportunity to work with a true QB coach. I feel with all my QB's being able to understand the mental as well as physical part of the QB position can elevate his game." said Coach Brian Schmidt.
Head Coach Ryan Lingenfelder said of his QB's "I am looking forward to seeing what QB emerges as our leader."
