
2014 Wachusett Dirt Dawgs Schedule Announced

LEOMINSTER, Mass. - (November 21, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the release of their 2014 season schedule, with Opening Night at Doyle Field set for Wednesday, June 4.
"We are very excited about our 2014 season schedule," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "Our schedule is very well balanced, and will give our amazing fans in the North Central communities many great nights at Doyle Field throughout the summer!"
The Dirt Dawgs open their 2014 season at home on Wednesday, June 4, against the Pittsfield Suns. They have two home games to start the season, as they host the Seacoast Mavericks at Doyle Field on Thursday, June 5. The Dirt Dawgs first road game is against the new Worcester team on Friday, June 6. The final game of the regular season for the Dirt Dawgs is scheduled for Friday, August 8, at Doyle Field against the defending champion Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
The first time the expansion team from Worcester travels to Leominster to face the Dirt Dawgs will be Tuesday, June 10. The Dirt Dawgs will play the new Worcester team, yet to be named, four times at Doyle Field and four times at Fitton Field in Worcester during the summer.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are planning some exciting new promotions for the new season as well. The promotional list should be released shortly after the new year.
"It is great the League was able to release our schedule in November this year," said John Morrison, Owner, "It gives us additional time to plan an exciting promotional schedule for our wonderful fans; already in the works are promotions featuring snowballs, green beer and costumes at Doyle."
First pitch game times at Doyle will remain the same for 2014, with a start time on Monday's thru Saturday's of 6:35 p.m., and start times on Sunday's of 4:35 p.m.
In 2014 the league will feature two divisions for the first time in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) history. The Dirt Dawgs will be part of the West Division. The West Division will also consist of Nashua, Worcester, Pittsfield, and Torrington. The East Division will consist of Old Orchard Beach, Seacoast, North Shore, Brockton, and Martha's Vineyard.
Also new for 2014 will be the league's 56-game regular season, with 28 home games and 28 away games.
The 2014 FCBL playoffs will feature six teams in a three round format. The winner of each division will have a bye in round one. The next four teams with the best overall record will be in a winner take all play-in game. The play-in game winners will be between the #3 and #6 seed, as well as the #4 and #5 seed. Round two will feature a 3-game series between the #1 seed who will then play the lowest seed remaining, while the #2 seed will play the highest seed remaining from round one. The FCBL Championship will be determined by a best of 3-game series with the two teams who won their semi-final round.
