2013-14 FHL Award Winners Announced
March 29, 2014 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) News Release
As Chairman of the FHL Awards Committee for the fourth consecutive year I wish to congratulate the recipients of this season's individual awards. Due to the fabulous efforts by so many FHL players this season the decision as to who should receive each award was the most difficult one yet, particularly in the categories of Rookie of the Year and League MVP.
My committee spent several days tallying the ballots and discussing amongst ourselves who would ultimately represent the FHL and their teams for each award. As our committee put the final puzzle pieces together we knew there was going to be a tie for the Rookie of the Year and League MVP. Simply put after tallying several thousand ballots and discussion it was too close to call. As Chairman of the FHL Awards Committee, I have been given the authority to break any tie in the balloting, but chose not to do so because selecting one player over the other in each of these two categories would have been an egregious hockey mistake. The seasonal play of both Rookie of the Year and League MVP recipients was so consistent and so over-the-top phenomenal that they each deserved recognition. The recipients in all the award categories should be extremely proud of their accomplishments and remember that on this day you were selected as being the best at what you do.
I wish to thank Commissioner Kirnan and Vice Commissioner Richards for entrusting this task to me as well as thank my committee members, Dave Smolnycki, Carmine Vetrano and Rich Gregory for the tremendous efforts they made in getting a tough job done. Thanks to Chris Plymouth and his staff at Spikes Awards in Philadelphia for getting it all done so professionally. A big thank you goes out to Tom Creegan for filling in for the Commissioner in the handing out of the awards. I also wish to thank the fans who participated in the balloting for their passionate support of the their teams and players. Without you the FHL could not accomplish its goals.
