Somerset, N.J. (Thursday, December 17, 2009) - Women's Professional Soccer announced the bulk of the home openers for its second year of play today, with 2009 WPS Champions Sky Blue FC set to host the Chicago Red Stars at Yurcak Field on Sunday, April 11th. Upon the announcement of the match, which will air live as the season debut of the WPS Sunday on FSC national telecast package, Sky Blue FC has opened individual ticket sales for the opener. Fans can get those tickets calling the team directly at 1-888-SBFC-TIX.
"We are excited to face off against Chicago in our home opener and unveil what we are confident is a quality team that is worthy of our title as defending Women's Professional Soccer Champions," Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone stated. "With a year behind us, we are ready to kick off an even bigger and better celebration for all of our fans."
Among the activities planned for the season opener include the presentation of the WPS Championship Trophy presented by MedImmune, as well as a championship ring ceremony. Additional announcements surrounding the opening day celebration will be made as the team continues preparation for the upcoming season.
In addition to being able to purchase individual tickets for the 2010 opener, Sky Blue FC currently has on sale a special holiday season ticket package starting as low as $99, in addition to four and 10-game flex packages. For a limited time, fans can add $25 to the purchase of any season ticket or flex package to receive a Sky Blue FC car magnet and choice of two specialty items, including a championship scarf, t-shirt or hat. Each of those new items is also available through the Sky Blue Store at www.SkyBlueStore.com. Any order needed to be delivered prior to Christmas must be placed by the end of business on Monday, December 21st.
The 2010 WPS season will feature two new teams with the Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence entering the league as expansion franchises. League play will begin with a full slate of games on the weekend of April 10-11th, and it will be the first time ever that four WPS games take place over one weekend.

More details on the 2010 WPS Regular Season, the 2010 WPS All-Star Game presented by U.S. Coast Guard and the 2010 WPS Playoff schedule will be released in the coming weeks. The complete 2010 WPS Regular Season schedule is expected to be released in early February.
