2009 NBA D-League Showcase Schedule Announced
October 15, 2008 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2008 - The schedule for the four-day, 16-game, NBA Development League Showcase, which features all 16 teams competing between Jan. 5-8, 2009, was announced today. The fifth annual event will take place at the McKay Events Center, home of the Utah Flash, in Orem, Utah. Fans can log onto www.nba.com/futurecast to watch every Showcase game streamed live, online, for free.
Action tips off on Monday, Jan. 5, when the Sioux Falls Skyforce take on the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 11 a.m. MT, and continues with three more contests during the afternoon and evening. The schedules for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday also include four games each, beginning at 11 a.m. MT (see full schedule attached).
"The Showcase represents one of the largest events to ever come to Utah County," said Flash owner Brandt Anderson. "In addition to the eyes of the basketball world being focused on Utah County for that week, you could never put a price tag on the national and international media exposure that comes to the state as part of the Flash hosting this event."
The Flash also will host general managers, player personnel staff and scouts from each of the 30 NBA teams who will converge in Utah for four days to evaluate the league's talent. Numerous members of the international basketball community will also make the trip to Orem to watch the games in person.
"We are excited to bring the world-wide basketball community to Orem, UT for this year's NBA D-League Showcase," Chris Alpert, NBA D-League Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel said. "This event provides our players with a tremendous opportunity to compete in front of NBA scouts and highlights one of our great markets. This is a great setting for the basketball community to see the caliber of talent in the NBA D-League first-hand."
The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league and features 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams. The league has produced 15 percent of the players on 2007-08 end-of-season NBA rosters and continues to develop current NBA coaches and referees. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote youth basketball, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout this season fans can watch all NBA D-League games on NBA Futurecast, the free live Web-streaming initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.
