Stockton Lightning News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. -The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league have announced the team will open the 2007 af2 season on the road against the defending ArenaCup Champion Spokane Shock on Saturday, March 31, 2007.
Following a Week two bye, the Lightning begin their second season of arena football at Stockton Arena in a Week three matchup against the local rival Central Valley Coyotes on April 14.
The Lightning will face a stern test in its quest for the team's first ArenaCup Playoff berth in Lightning history, with two games against the Shock in the first five weeks of the regular season.
In addition, the Lightning will face four new teams they did not see in the 2006 season, facing the af2 expansion Boise Burn and Tri-Cities club twice, Corpus-Christi once in the regular season finale, and a Week 12 road tilt against the Amarillo Dusters. Stockton will also face the division rival Coyotes and Bakersfield Blitz three times each this season, the most amount of games the Lightning face against one team in 2007.
In addition, the late portion of the schedule favors a home-field advantage for Stockton, as the Lightning will have four home games scheduled at Stockton Arena in the final six weeks.
The Lightning will play a total of 16 games (eight home/eight away) and will be part of a new league alignment, moving over to the American Conference and in a revamped West Division. The new divisions are as follows:
