March 31, 2006 - The Charlotte Sting will add three more faces to their roster as they participate in the 2006 WNBA Draft on Wednesday, April 5. Charlotte holds two selections in the first round with the third and 10th overall picks as well as a second round pick (27th overall) in the draft, which begins at 1:00 p.m. in Boston.
Sting General Manager Trudi Lacey and Head Coach Muggsy Bogues will be available for interviews following the draft. In addition, Charlotte's two first round selections will participate in a conference call from Boston. Lunch will be provided.
ESPN2 will air live coverage of the first round beginning at 1:00 p.m. The second and third rounds will follow on ESPNU and NBA TV.
The 2006 WNBA Draft caps off a week-long celebration of women's basketball emanating from Boston. In addition to the draft, the city will host the NCAA Women's Final Four on April 2 and 4, the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp on April 3 and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association convention.
Notable players in this year's draft include LSU guard Seimone Augustus, Georgia guard Sherrill Baker, Duke guard/forward Monique Currie, Temple forward Candice Dupree, Miami guard/forward Tamara James, Rutgers guard Cappie Pondexter and Baylor forward Sophia Young.
Last season, the Sting selected Janel McCarville from the University of Minnesota with the first overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft.
The Charlotte Sting's 10th anniversary season begins on May 20 at Charlotte Bobcats Arena as they host the Chicago Sky at 6 p.m. Season tickets are available for as low as $99 and are on sale now.
