Stockton Lightning News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning has released its inaugural 2006 season schedule and will open the season against the Spokane Shock, Lightning Team President Dan Chapman announced today.
"Our 2006 af2 schedule promises to be very competitive and will certainly provide our fans with some high caliber arena football," said Chapman. "There is some uncertainty as to the quality of the individual teams with rosters still being developed, but we do expect many exciting contests."
The Lightning, entering their first af2 season under Head Coach Richard Davis and a member of the af2's National Conference (West Division), will kick off the season against division rivals with a March 30 road clash with the Shock, the opening game of the af2's 2006 season with the first-ever arena football game played in the state of Washington.
Following a Week 2 matchup at Oklahoma City, a Week 3 bye and a Week 4 tilt at Quad City, the Lightning christens Stockton Arena for the inaugural home opener in Week 5, with a 7 p.m. game against the Bakersfield Blitz on Saturday, April 29. The home opener begins a three-week homestretch in Stockton.
The bulk of the season hits Stockton in Week 6 with a May 5 home tilt against the Everett Hawks at 7 p.m., who are owned by Buffalo Bills (NFL) defensive tackle Sam Adams. The Lightning then goes head-to-head against their league geographical rivals, the Central Valley Coyotes in Week 7 on May 13.
Stockton hits the road again in Week 8 with a four-hour drive south to Bakersfield, taking on the Blitz again on May 20 at 7 p.m. Everett then hosts the Lightning the following Saturday at 7 p.m.
Week 10 will be highlighted by a visit from the defending ArenaCup Champion Memphis Xplorers, with a 7 p.m. kickoff slated at Stockton Arena on June 3, which starts the playoff drive for the 2006 season. The Lightning then travels to Wisconsin with a Week 11 tilt against the Green Bay Blizzard set for June 10 at 5:30 p.m. (PT).
The Lightning then returns to Stockton Arena for Weeks 12 and 13 against Everett and the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings, before taking a Week 14 bye.
The Lightning then jumps into the furious playoff push by finishing the schedule exclusively against division rivals and inside the California borders, renewing acquaintances for a second matchup with Central Valley on week 15, with a clash in Fresno against the Coyotes.
Stockton finishes the schedule by hosting Spokane on Week 16 and visiting Bakersfield on Week 17 with a 7 p.m. game on July 22. The regular season concludes at Stockton Arena with a battle against Central Valley on Week 18.
Broadcast information for the Lightning will be announced at an impending date.
Season tickets for the Stockton Lightning will go on sale to the public December 3rd at Stockton's Sherwood Mall at 10 a.m., with packages starting as low as $80 (packages discounted at 10% if paid-in-full by December 31).
