Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY - The Rochester Rhinos defeated FC Montreal 2:1 on the Saputo Stadium Turf Field on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Christian Volesky scored a second half brace in Montreal for the second time this season to help the Rhinos run their unbeaten start to the 2015 season to seven matches.
The victory moved the Rochester Rhinos to the top of the Eastern Conference table a quarter of the way through their 2015 USL season with 17 points from a 5-0-2 record. The Richmond Kickers led Rochester by goal differential at kickoff, and will have a chance to reclaim their position at the top of the table when they play host to Charleston Battery at home in City Stadium at 7PM on Saturday evening.
After a scoreless first half Volesky opened the scoring for the Rhinos in the 57 th minute. After an extended spell of possession for Rochester in FC Montreal's half of the pitch, midfielder Kenardo Forbes slipped a pass into the path of left back Sean Totsch's overlapping run to begin the scoring sequence. Totsch dribbled to the end line before serving a ball into the home side's penalty area. The Totsch service found Volesky unmarked in the middle of the box, and the rookie headed the opening goal of the match past goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau and into the back of FC Montreal's net.
Volesky scored the match winning goal and doubled the visitor's advantage in the 64th minute. With his first touch of the game New England Revs loanee Tyler Rudy entered the match as a substitute, won a fifty-fifty, chipped a ball with backspin in behind FC Montreal's back four, and into the path of Volesky. Volesky settled the ball with his first touch before dribbling around Crepeau and finishing from an acute angle. It was Volesky's fourth goal of the season, and all four of his tallies have come at Saputo Stadium against FC Montreal.
