
2-0 Whalers Home-and-Home With Sarnia This Weekend

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - When the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers face-off this weekend against the Sarnia Sting - Friday night in Sarnia at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Compuware Sports Arena - they'll be playing with a different lineup from the one that beat the Windsor Spitfires twice last weekend.
With National Hockey League training camps starting up, Plymouth NHL-drafts John Armstrong (Calgary), James Neal (Dallas), Dan Collins (Florida), Ryan McGinnis (Los Angeles) and Jared Boll and Tom Sestito (Columbus) have all left to participate with their respective teams. In addition, veteran defenseman Steve Ward received an invitation to play in Toronto's camp.
Two other Whalers - Evan Brophey (Chicago) and Michal Neuvirth (Washington) - are scheduled to leave next week.
And while everyone is expected to be back for the Whalers' season opener Sept. 22 in Sarnia, Plymouth rookies and second-year players will receive much of the ice time against Sarnia. Plymouth fans will see Whaler rookies AJ Jenks (Wolverine Lake), Vern Cooper, Kaine Geldart, Brett Valliquette, Jozef Sladok, Frank Grzeszczak and Chad Beal on the ice a great deal in the interim.
After playing against Sarnia this weekend, Plymouth closes the preseason with games in Saginaw at the Down Event Center next weekend - Friday, Sept. 15 against Team Mexico at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 16 at 4:00 p.m. against Erie.
Plymouth's home opener is Saturday, Sept. 23 against the Erie Otters. Start times for most Whalers games have been moved to 7:05 p.m.. Season tickets, 3, 6 and 10-game FLEX packages and single-game tickets ($14 for Center Ice Seating, $10 for Executive Reserved and Bench Seating) can be purchased by calling the Compuware Sports Arena, or by using Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com. WHALERS IN ROYAL OAK on SATURDAY: Plymouth players Brett Bellemore, Chad Beal, Leo Jenner and Kyle Jendra will team up with the Royal Oak Eagles travel teams on this Saturday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon during the Eagles' Open Registration and Equipment sale at the Leo Mahany/Harold Meininger Senior Community Center, located at 3500 Marais in Royal Oak.
Bellemore, Beal, Jenner and Jendra will be available for autographs and photos at the event.
The community center is located north of 13 Mile Road, just south of Lexington and east of Crooks.
The fundraiser is in support of Royal Oak Eagles travel teams.
WHALERS IN PLYMOUTH on SATURDAY: Plymouth players Andrew Fournier, Kaine Geldart, Zack Shepley and Frank Grzeszczak will be attending the Plymouth Fall Festival in Downtown Plymouth this Saturday, September 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. All four players will be available for autographs and photo opportunities.
