"The covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the community's blood supply over multiple months. At this point we are CRITICALLY short of blood and are asking all blood types and all new donors to consider donating blood with us at this special event," states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. "The only way we can provide an impactful blood supply for local patients is by volunteers coming forward to schedule their appointment, roll up their sleeve and give blood. The whole process takes about 30 minutes. We will need all the donations we can get as we move through the holiday weekend and respond to emergencies."
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID with you. An individual can donate blood safely every 56 days. Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of blood to Avera McKennan Hospital, Avera Heart Hospital, the V.A. Medical Center, Sioux Falls Surgical Hospital, Sanford Children's and Sanford Health.
Patrons must schedule an appoint in advance of donating, which is different from past events. To schedule your appointment log onto www.cbblifeblood.org, click on 'events' and choose November 24 or call Community Blood Bank at 605-331-3222.
Community Blood Banks is a nonprofit, cooperative of Sanford and Avera Health and the sole blood provider to Sanford Chamberlain Medical Center and 33 other local hospitals. Community Blood Bank is not associated with any other blood bank organizations.
