
14-9 victory over Chicago inches Titans closer to .500

Chicago, Ill. - The New York Titans of the National Lacrosse League stormed the Chicago Shamrox on the road at the Sears Center Saturday with a dominant 14-9 victory, bringing their record to 3-4.
Chicago scored the first goal of the night 3:27 minutes into play, but the Titans answered back with a vengeance, scoring four unanswered goals and taking a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Titans continued to dominate the Shamrox throughout the second quarter, scoring five more unanswered goals and ended the half with a 9-1 lead.
Titans rook Jordan Hall had a hat trick in the first half, scoring the first two Titans goals of the night and scoring again in the second quarter to bring the score to 7-1.
With :11 left in the first half and the Titans already with a commanding lead at 8-1, Titans captain Casey Powell finished off the half with a diving "Air Gait" behind the net goal, scoring his first of the night.
The Titans cooled off in the third quarter, only scoring one goal to bring their lead to 10-1. The Shamrox also only scored one goal in the third quarter, their second for the night.
In the fourth quarter, the Shamrox pulled out all the stops and outscored the Titans 7-4, going on a run and chipping away at New York's sizable lead. But it wasn't enough to overcome the Titans, who finished the game 14-9.
Titans starting goalie Matt Vinc was exceptional in the first half of play, with 21 saves. Titans back-up goalie Erik Miller stepped in between the pipes to take over in the second half. He had 7 saves on 15 shots.
Three Titans players scored hat tricks: Hall, Brendan Mundorf and Pat Maddalena. Powell and Maddalena tied for the game's leader in points with seven. Powell had five assists and two goals and Maddalena had three goals and four assists. Seven Titans players scored at least one goal in the victory.
For Chicago, Jonas Derks was the leader in points with six off of one goal and five assists.
The Titans continue their road trip next Saturday, February 23 at 7:35pm in Rochester against the Knighthawks. They play their next home game on Saturday, March 22nd at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ against the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30pm.
