Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, ON - The Oshawa Generals are preparing for a big night on Thursday, December 2nd as they hold their 13th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by RONA Whitby against the Kingston Frontenacs at 7:05 PM. Last season the Generals managed to collect a record 4,402 stuffed animals at the 12th annual event when Generals forward Alain Berger scored at the 4:12 mark of the 2nd period. This year the Generals are looking to push the total number of teddy bears and stuffed animals collected over 4,500 and the thirteen year total over 34,000. The stuffed animals will be donated to the Durham Children's Aid Society, YWCA Durham, and the Eastview Boys and Girls Club who will distribute to those in need this holiday season.

"Whitby RONA is proud to sponsor the 13th Annual Teddy Bear Toss," says Whitby RONA store manager Tassos Tsiris, noting teddy bears can provide comfort and a sense of security for underprivileged kids.

RONA is a longstanding supporter of youth organizations. At this year's teddy bear toss, members of a boy's pee-wee hockey team and a girl's atom division team - both sponsored by RONA - will be on hand to collect the teddy bears tossed at the game.

"We'd love to see our community break last year's record of 4,402 teddy bears tossed," adds Tsiris.

Here's how the promotion works:

Fans attending the game are asked to bring a new or nearly new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game on December 2nd. Immediately following the Generals first goal, fans will throw their bears or stuffed animals onto the ice surface.

This promotion will be complete when we hand teddy bears and stuffed animals to the people who need them the most... local charities. The Oshawa Generals are here to help those who are less fortunate and it is a way to give back to the community. This promotion is not possible without the fans, and the local media. We need your support to make this event successful.
