10-Man Foxes Side Stumbles at Real Monarchs
June 26, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - An early goal from Andrew Brody gave Real Monarchs a repeat performance from one month prior, as the Foxes, again, fell 1-0 in Herriman, Utah. Brody dribbled across the box taking a strike near post that went just by goalkeeper Kyle Reynish for the lead at the 8th minute. The Foxes fought back soon after, opening up space in the opposing half but unable to break the deadlock.
In the second half, the Foxes (4W-7L-7L) saw a solid chance from forward Franck Tayou, whose scissor kick from 23-yards-out just missed the mark. It was the first Fresno FC start for Tayou after coming off the bench in his previous two appearances. A few minutes later, however, frustrations set in as midfielder Jemal Johnson drew two yellow cards in five minutes, leaving Fresno to play a man down for the final 20 minutes of regulation.
With the advantage, the Monarchs saw more opportunities, but were thwarted by Reynish between the posts. The Foxes saw one more solid chance develop at the 87th minute when Alex Cooper found space near the left wing, but his shot was blocked by Connor Sparrow.
The Foxes return to Fresno after consecutive 1-0 losses at Colorado Springs and Real Monarchs, respectively. They'll hope to bump that skid Saturday against Sacramento Republic FC in the second edition of the Highway 99 Derby. Republic won the first derby, 1-0, on June 13th. Tickets for the match are available online at http://tickets.fresnofc.com or in-person at the Chukchansi Park Box Office.
