
Late goals from locals Worteh Sampson and Ryan Mack key in Ignition victory

(Southfield, Mich.) - The expansion Detroit Ignition (18-11) will have the chance to win the Major Indoor Soccer League's regular season title tomorrow against the Chicago Storm (16-12) at Compuware Sports Arena. Detroit defeated the Philadelphia KiXX (17-13), 10-9 at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday night. Target forward, and Madonna University graduate, Worteh Sampson buried a two-point goal past KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas at 12:15 of the fourth quarter of play to tally the game-winning goal. The Ignition-Storm game on Sunday is slated for a 4:35 pm ET start and will be broadcast live on Comcast Local.
Carlos Farias registered the first goal of the night, a two-pointer, at 4:09 to hand the visiting Ignition the early 2-0 advantage in the opening frame of play. Patt Morris responded with a two-point goal for Philadelphia at 9:03 as the KiXX evened the score at 2-2 at the end of the first.
Farias started the second quarter with another two-point goal as the first-year Ignition took a 4-2 lead at 2:51. KiXX forward Dino Delevski came back with a two-point goal of his own at 7:27 to tie the contest at 4-4 at the end of the first half.
Ignition target and rookie of the year candidate Worteh Sampson put Detroit back in control with a two-point goal at 9:22 to put the club on top 6-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Midfielder Ryan Mack kept the engine running in the fourth quarter with a two-point goal at 9:44 to give Detroit the 8-4 lead. Don D'Ambra ripped a shot past Ignition netminder Danny Waltman for a three-point goal at to bring the KiXX within one as the club trailed Detroit 8-7. Delevski registered his second goal of the night with a two-point goal at 8:17 to hand the KiXX the 9-8 lead. Sampson tallied his second goal of the night, a two-pointer, at 12:15 as the Ignition was able to hang on for the 10-9 victory.
