Halifax, (NS) - The Halifax Hurricanes looked to get back on track versus the Windsor Express Saturday night after having their franchise record 9 game win streak snapped at home by the Saint John Riptide on Thursday night. The Canes defeated the Express 98-91 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Thursday, January 28.
The Canes jumped out to an early lead, taking a 26-20 lead into the second quarter. They were able to maintain that momentum through the second and finished the half with a lead of 53-45 on the strength of 7-16 shooting from beyond the arc. Halifax Coach Mike Leslie took a balanced approach to his player rotation, resulting in 11 of 12 Hurricanes scoring at least two points in the first half. The Express used a 28 point third quarter to claw their way back, tying the game at 73-73 going into the final frame. Halifax answered back by going on an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter and were able to hold the Express to only 18 points in the fourth quarter. Halifax finished the game with a 98-91 win to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Halifax Centre Billy White had a double-double and two key tip ins, finishing with13 points and 12 rebounds. Ta'quan Zimmerman added 16 points on 3 of 5 shooting from three point range. Forward CJ Washington added 14 points and Tyrone Watson and Antoine Mason added 12 and 13 points respectively.
Canadian Guard Warren Ward of the Express led all scorers on the night with 21 points. Former Halifax Rainmen Centre DeAndre Thomas added 20 points and 6 rebounds. Nick Evans scored 17 points and Wally Ellenson chipped in 12 for the Express.
The Hurricanes bench outscored the Express' 48-22 in the game.
The Hurricanes will take on the Island Storm at home on Sunday, January 29th at the Scotiabank Centre in Downtown Halifax, NS. Halifax leads the season series between the two clubs 2-0, winning the last game by a margin of 110-104.
