Orange County Flyers News Release

The Fullerton Flyers were down 10-0 heading into the 6th inning, but they ended the game with the tying run at the plate in the 9th. San Diego won the four game series by taking Sunday's game 10-7.

San Diego scored in four of the first five innings to jump in front 10-0, but they needed their ace closer Josh Rummonds to hold the lead in a 10-7 win at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Flyers scored five runs on seven singles in the 6th inning to start the comeback attempt off starter Jake Meyer and reliever Brent Porciau. Meyer had given up only one hit and no runs in the first five innings.

Fullerton scored two runs in the 9th inning off Porciau to cut the lead to 10-7 when Josh Rummonds came in the game with runners on first and second.

Rummonds retired Adam Shorsher, who came into the game in the 6th inning for Peanut Williams, and Jesse Schmidt to end the game.

The Flyers got solid relief from Jon Grijalva and Wes Faust to make the comeback attempt possible.

Starter Todd Gelatka did not make it out of the 4th inning and Matt Lincoln did not fair much better in relief of him.

Gelatka gave up back-to-back homeruns in the 4th inning to Kevin Ciarrachi and Matt Maloney.

San Diego scored three times in the 1st inning with two outs on RBI hits from Joey Huskins and Ryan Fox.

They finished scoring for the night when Adam Mandel doubled in two runs for the Surf Dawgs in their four-run 5th inning.

The Surf Dawgs moved to 5-2 in the second half, while the Flyers dropped to 3-5.

The same two teams will meet again Tuesday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton at 7:05 pm.
