Lubbock Renegades News Release

LUBBOCK, TX: December 11, 2007 - The Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 (af2) added on to their 2008 roster, as the af2 assigned defensive back Elliot Powell to the club today.

"His af2 experience adds to our defense," said Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear. "Elliot has size and athletic ability, and with his year in the league last season, there will be less teaching involved and he can step in ready to go."

The Orange, California native split last season in the af2 with the Louisville Fire and the Everett Hawks. Powell appeared in three games with the Fire and forced two fumbles and had 8.5 tackles (6 solo). The two forced fumbles ended Powell ranked tied for third for the Fire in the category. The 6'1" 205-pound defensive back was reassigned and picked up by the Everett Hawks, where he finished out the season appearing in six games. He produced 10.5 tackles (8 solo) with the Hawks to combine for 19 tackles (14 solo) along with a pair of pass breakups and forced fumbles in nine games.

In college, Powell was a two-sport star, excelling on the gridiron and on the track. Powell, 26, began his college career at Fullerton College (CA.) before transferring to Valparaiso. He played football during the 2003 and 2004 seasons with Valpo and combined for 42 tackles (23 solo) and five interceptions. On the track surface, Powell was a two-time All Mid Continent Conference selection, receiving honors for the indoor 200m (2004) and 60m (2005). He set school records for the 60m (6.9 in 2005) and 200m (22.2 in 2005), and was part of the 4x200m relay team that set a school mark in 2004 with a time of 1:32.01. Powell had impressive workouts leading up to the 2005 NFL Draft, and despite going undrafted, he attended tryout camps with the Seattle Seahawks.

Powell marks the fourth addition to the 2008 Renegades roster, joining Chad Jackson (WR/DB), Ronald Redmond (OL/DL) and Corey White (DB). Media members looking to interview Blackshear or seeking additional information in regards to Powell's addition may contact Chris Due at 806-744-5858.

The Renegades have concluded their inaugural 2007 campaign and are now preparing for the 2008 season. Season ticket and corporate sponsorship information for the 2008 season is available by contacting the Renegades office at (806) 744-5858.
