Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release

The Lakeland Thunderbolts (6-2) will host the league leading Mississippi Mudcats (10-1) at the Lakeland Center Saturday night at 7:00PM

There are many interesting facets to this game, making it the best game to be played at the Lakeland Center this season. Mudcat Head Coach Brian Brents is the former offensive coordinator for the Thunderbolts. "Coach Brents is an excellent coach we have been coaching together for over 5 years. I brought him with me when I came to Lakeland" said Head Coach Teddy Keaton. Along with the big brother little brother rivalry is the fact Mississippi is leading the league in offensive, scoring an average of 63 points per game. Lakeland is the defensive leader allowing just 26 points per game. Mississippi is a passing team with 2,064 yards passing while the Thunderbolts Larry Thompson leads the league in interceptions with 14. "This will be an intense game with lot's of fast paced action. "The fans are going to have a great time at this game" Keaton said. "This has developed into the best rivalry in the league". "It is not only a battle of the coaches but offensive vs. defense" said defensive coordinator Pat Dooley. "We dropped our opening game to them 46-38. We made a few first game mistakes that cost us the win. We are looking forward to the rematch" Keaton said. "Our offense is ready for the challenge. We know execution is the key to beating any top rated team. You cannot make mistakes and expect to beat Mississippi" said offensive coordinator Kenny Johnson.

Lakeland had a bye week while Mississippi got revenge beating the Carolina Speed 78 - 28. The Speed is the only team to beat the Mudcats this season.

This weeks game coincides with the Lakeland Boat Show. There will be a free raffle to win a 10 foot Jon Boat courtesy of Fantasea Marine. Doors open at 6:00 PM.
