Bloomington Thunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Bloomington Thunder are pleased to welcome defenseman Christian Hausinger to the organization. The trade which brought the defenseman from the Muskegon Lumberjacks to the Thunder was announced Tuesday afternoon.
The trade brings Bloomington an additional piece in their run for the post season with two months left in the season. In exchange for the Lumberjack's defenseman, the Thunder have sent a 2016 eighth round, Phase II draft pick to Muskegon.
Hausinger, 19, joins the Thunder after playing in 35 games this season. Originally with the Lincoln Stars, the Anchorage, AK native played in 20 games before being sent to the Lumberjacks. In his first United States Hockey League season, the stay at home defenseman has two assists.
Before joining the USHL, Hausinger was with the Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League where he scored 31 points (7g, 24a) in 59 games from the point. He then became a second round pick by the Lincoln Stars in the 2015 USHL Phase II entry draft. The 6-foot 194 pound defenseman has also played for the Skipjacks Hockey Club in the USPHL, Dimond High School, and the Las Vegas Storm of the NAPHL.
Christian's older brother Kenny Hausinger followed the same path as his brother, but were separated at the beginning of the season when Kenny was drafted by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the first round, third overall of Phase II. This season the elder Hausinger has 32 points (14g, 18a) in 37 games to lead the Buccaneers scoring. The forward and defenseman combination are both uncommitted to Division I NCAA programs at this juncture.
Hausinger and the Thunder will head to Muskegon to face his former team this weekend in a two game set from the L.C. Walker Arena. Puck drop for both games is slated for 6:15 p.m. CST (7:15 p.m. EST) as the Thunder play games four and five in their six game season series.
NEXT HOME GAME: Friday, February 12th - 7 p.m. - The Thunder battle with the Green Bay Gamblers to open a weekend series from the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m. and until puck drop there are $1 draft beers and soft drinks at the Coliseum concession stands. Tickets start at $10 for the game and could go even lower with youth, senior, and military discounts. Call the Thunder office at (309) 434-2980 for more information and the best deals on tickets.
