Texas Hurricanes News Release

Houston, TX - On Sunday January 25, 2009, the Texas Pirates, a member of the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL), completed its first open tryout at Kicks Indoor Sports Complex in the Heights. There were 29 hopefuls at the tryout.

Head Coach, Leon Thomasson, was asked what he was looking for in a player. He said, "Players that are coachable, disciplined, highly skilled, and love the game." Additionally, he was asked what he thought about the players in attendance. "We have a lot of good looks, but a long way to go," said Coach Thomasson.

After a long, hard workout with the players, Coach Thomasson addressed the group saying, "We are very excited about what we saw today. You guys are hungry and that's great! Our next tryout will be February 8th , so everyone here needs to be there."

Among the players trying out for the team was Mike Kee, a former player with the Katy Titans of the North American Football League (NAFL). Mike proved to have an excellent arm and is improving his short game and quick release. Coach Thomasson was very excited about seeing him at the tryout.

The next open tryout will be Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Kicks, 611 Shepherd, Houston at 8:00 AM.

Regular and season tickets are now on sale. Visit our site at www.texaspiratesfootball.com for more information.
