Shock Trade for Former CWU WR Justin Helwege

SPOKANE, Washington (October 9, 2015) - The Shock have traded rookie defensive back Elijah Lee to the Cedar Rapids Titans in exchange for veteran wide receiver Justin Helwege.

Helwege (WR, 6-5, 220, Central Washington) joins the Shock for his fourth season as a member of the IFL. Last season, Helwege spent time with the Nebraska Danger and the Cedar Rapids Titans. He played his first two seasons (2013 and 2014) as a member of the Colorado Ice (Crush). After starting the season with Colorado in 2014, he would go on to spend time with the AFL's Portland Thunder. During the first nine weeks of his 2013 rookie campaign, Helwege led the league in touchdown receptions (18) while leading the Ice's receiving corps with 39 receptions in those contests.

Prior to joining the IFL, Helwege spent time with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. He was a four year starter for Central Washington University and was a unanimous First Team selection in the GNAC Conference (Division II). During his senior season after he hauled in 51 passes for 717 yards and eight touchdowns. Helwege played his prep career at Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Washington.

"Justin is a tall and physical receiver that has proven to be a red zone weapon in this league," said Shock Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "As a Central Washington alumni and former Seahawk we know that he will not only be a fan favorite here in Spokane but a tremendous addition to our offense as well."

In exchange for Helwege, the Shock have traded rookie defensive back Elijah Lee to Cedar Rapids.

Lee (DB, 6-0, 190, Charleston Southern) will be entering his rookie season as a member of the IFL after spending time with the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks. Lee finished his collegiate career at Charleston Southern University where he played his junior and senior seasons and saw action in 24 contests on his way to recording 124 total tackles (78 solo) with 3.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, and ten pass breakups. Prior to attending CSU, Lee spent two seasons at the Glove Institute of Technology (NY). He attended Union High School in Union, NJ.
