SPOKANE, Washington (September 25, 2015) - The Shock have announced the addition of Ameer Ismail to their 2016 coaching staff as Defensive Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Ismail served as Defensive Coordinator for Tri-Cities during the 2015 IFL season and helped the Fever to the third best total defense in the league (213.6 yards per game). They also ranked fourth in rushing defense (73.9 yards per game), third in pass defensive efficiency as they limited opposing quarterbacks to a rating of 97.5 in 14 games, and third in pass defense (139.7 yards per game).
Ameer began his coaching career with the IFL's Cedar Rapids Titans where he coached for two seasons, including 2014 where he helped the franchise to an 11-3 record during the regular season with one of the top defensive units in the league.
"Ameer has had three very successful seasons as a defensive coordinator and proven that he is one of the top young defensive minds in indoor football," said Shock Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "We're looking forward to having him on our staff and utilizing his experience to build a great football team."
Prior to his coaching debut, Ismail played three seasons in the IFL for the Tri-Cities Fever (2010), Bloomington Edge (2012), and the Chicago Slaughter (2013). He was a two-time First Team All-IFL selection and was named IFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. During his three year IFL career Ismail registered 357 tackles, 13.5 sacks, six interceptions, and five forced fumbles.
Ismail played his collegiate career at Western Michigan University where he earned his B.A. in exercise science and physiology. During this fall football season of 2015, Ismail is serving as a defensive assistant for the Broncos coaching linebackers and is also an assistant strength and conditioning coach. After a successful collegiate career at Western Michigan, he spent time with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
