Richmond Raiders News Release
RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Raiders (1-2) face off against the Columbus Lions (2-0) on Saturday as the two teams meet for the second time already this season. Last time the two teams met in week two, the Lions defeated the Raiders 52-50 in a come-from-behind win in Columbus. This week, the Raiders will look to use their home field advantage in their favor and come out on top.
Fresh off an outstanding 60-45 victory last week against the Alabama Hammers, the Raiders hope to carry that momentum into this week. DB Brian Smith racked up a PIFL single game record four interceptions, earning him PIFL Defensive Player of the Week honors for week three of the season. In total, the Raiders defense notched five interceptions against the Hammers - tying them for a PIFL single game record. QB Jonathan Bane continued to shine last week, as he completed 23 of 40 passes for 245 yards. Five Raiders found the endzone, with WR Devin Wilson scoring three touchdowns.
The Lions travel to Richmond after defeating Trenton 70-60 last week. Columbus brings with them two strong quarterbacks in Antwon Young and Casey Kacz. Kacz filled in for an injured Young last week and threw for 350 yards, earning him PIFL Week 3 Offensive Player of the Week. Young, a former Raiders quarterback, will return to Richmond for the first time since 2013 if he is determined healthy this week.
Saturday night is "Education Wins" Night sponsored by Genworth. Special ticket values include a buy two, get one free package, and if students bring in a report card or homework assignment, they will receive a free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. There is a limit of one free ticket per report card or homework assignment. Fans can also tune into the game live at richmondraidersprofootball.com.
