Quincy Carter a no-go for Dorados

Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) today announced that quarterback Quincy Carter will not play for the team in 2009 due to af2 eligibility issues.

Based on the Arena Football League's suspension of play for 2009 and an effort to maintain af2's developmental mission, players who were active with AFL teams after May 1, 2008, will be ineligible to play in af2 this season.

"We're disappointed," Dorados General Manager Grant W. Buckborough said. "We know Valley football fans were looking forward to seeing Quincy in a Dorados uniform. He's been a big part of our marketing efforts. That said, af2 has been a developmental league for the past nine years and it will continue in that role. Since we fully expect the Arena League to resume play in 2010, it would be unfair to have Arena League-level players inundate the league and force out younger players looking to advance."

Carter started the last three games of the regular season for the Kansas City Brigade in 2008. He completed 51 of 89 passes (57.3 percent) for 575 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He signed a two-year extension with the Brigade on June 23, 2008. He asked for, and was granted, his release from that contract on October 20, 2008.

The Dorados return to Dodge Arena for their sixth season of af2 action. The team's home opener is on Saturday, April 18, vs. Bossier-Shreveport. The regular season begins on the road on Saturday, March 28, at Corpus Christi.

Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-7825.
