
Mississippi Drops Sunday Afternoon Contest to Pensacola 3-1

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (26-37) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (26-35) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in game three of the five game series at Trustmark Park. Despite the loss, Bryse Wilson provided the M-Braves with a strong performance on the mound. In 7.0 innings pitched, Wilson allowed nine hits, three runs, two earned runs, issued two walks, and struck out seven.
Pensacola wasted no time as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Luis Gonzalez singled on a soft line drive to center field allowing Narciso Crook to score.
The Blue Wahoos plated two more runs, extending their lead 3-0 in the top of the sixth inning. Chris Okey produced the first run of the inning by doubling on a fly ball to right field. Taylor Sparks scored from second base on the double from Okey. Keury Mella then reached base safely on a throwing error by M-Braves second baseman, Luis Valenzuela, and Okey scored from second base.
Carlos Martinez got the M-Braves on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning by lacing a line drive RBI single to right field, which allowed Tyler Marlette to score from third base, making the score 3-1.
Mella (5-3, 3.33) who started the game for Pensacola was credited with the win and Mississippi starter, Wilson (1-3, 6.42) suffered the loss. Carlos Navas earned a hold, his third of the season and Jesus Reyes earned his first save of the season.
Mississippi will face Pensacola again on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. (CST). Pensacola currently leads the series 2-1. RHP Andres Santiago (3-1, 4.54) is expected to start for M-Braves on Monday night. Opposite of Santiago on the mound will be Blue Wahoos RHP Vladimir Gutierrez (2-8, 6.23). Monday night's contest will feature the SportClips Military Monday promotion presented by SportClips (military may purchase a $7 ticket in all seating areas, excluding Suite Level, when presenting a valid ID. One random fan, representing the military, will receive a SportClips Prize Pack).
