Miller Time: D-Backs RHP Shelby Miller to Start Monday at Jackson

JACKSON, TENN. - As part of his progress back to the Major Leagues following Tommy John surgery, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Shelby Miller will make a rehab start for the Jackson Generals on Monday, June 4. Miller, a 27-year-old right-hander with 126 career Major League appearances for the Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals, will start the second game of Jackson's double-header against the Tennessee Smokies.
The first game of Monday's twin-bill at The Ballpark at Jackson will be the continuation of a suspended game between the Generals and Smokies from April 15, and it will begin at 4pm CT. The second game of the double-header will commence approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Miller last saw Major League action in April 2017 for the Diamondbacks in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since having surgery on his elbow in May 2017, Miller has made only one other start with an Arizona affiliate, throwing five innings for the High-A Visalia (CA) Rawhide on May 29. According to a report from AZCentral.com that quoted Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, Miller is expected to throw 70-80 pitches in Monday's outing.
Miller, a 2015 National League All-Star with the Atlanta Braves, holds a career earned run average of 3.67 over 698.1 MLB innings. The Brownwood, Texas native will be the first Diamondbacks player to make a rehab appearance with the Generals since Jackson signed their player development contract with Arizona in the fall of 2016.
