Madison Mallards News Release

Green Bay, WI-July 28, 2016. Playing for the final time at Joannes Stadium for the season, the Madison Mallards (9-10, 32-23) fell by a final score of 9-0 to the Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-7, 27-28) on Thursday night.

On a cold and overcast evening, the Mallards and Bullfrogs found themselves in a pitcher's duel throughout the early part of the game. Luke Matheny (Oklahoma State) made his third start of the season on the mound for the Mallards, and was in control early. Matheny tallied three strikeouts in his four innings on the mound, as he kept the Bullfrog batters guessing by showing control with his full arsenal of pitches.

The Bullfrogs would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the Mallards were still without a hit heading to the fifth.

Nate Palace (Valparaiso) would record the first Mallards hit of the night, as he punched a single into left field to lead off the fifth inning for Madison. One batter later, Cameron Frost (Washington State) would rip a single of his own into left field, as the Mallards threatened with their best scoring opportunity of the night. They couldn't generate a run however, as a double play ended the inning and kept the Mallards off of the board.

Green Bay would tack on a few more runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings and led 9-0 heading to the final inning of play.

Nico Hoerner (Stanford) would lead the inning off with an infield single, but the Mallards were then sent down in order as they lost by a final score of 9-0.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Friday, July 29th, as they take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs at 7:05 pm. Friday night is Bucket Ruckus presented by Endres Manufacturing. There will also be a Kalahari Resort Indoor Theme Park Pass Giveaway.
