Lions Sign Five More Players

Vancouver - The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import defensive backs DeAngelo Smith, Josh Wade, Jacobi Jenkins and J.T. Fitzgerald along with linebacker Kevin Reed have agreed to terms on contracts with the team.

Smith rejoins the Lions after a brief stint with the club in 2012 as part of the practice roster expansion period. He was a fifth-round selection of the Dallas Cowboys in 2009 following a standout career at the University of Cincinnati. DeAngelo also spent time with Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit where he appeared in seven games that year.

Wade is a native of San Diego and attended his hometown school of San Diego State. A four-year career which wrapped up in 2012 saw him make 37 career appearances and record 35 tackles and an interception.

Jenkins also wrapped up a four-year college career in 2012 and comes to the Leos by way of East Carolina. The speedy defensive back saw action in 45 games for the Pirates notching 53 defensive tackles.

Fitzgerald won't have to travel far for training camp as the Bellingham, Washington resident makes his way to Kamloops next week. The defensive back enjoyed a productive career at Rocky Mountain College (NAIA) appearing in 35 games over four years with 105 tackles and seven interceptions.

Reed joins the Lions after finishing his college days at Southern Illinois in 2012. The athletic linebacker made appearances in 17 games picking up 20 tackles a pair of sacks and an interception for a touchdown.

All five first-year Leos will hit the field in Kamloops for a three-day mini-camp beginning Thursday, May 30th running through Saturday, June 1st. The entire edition of the BC Lions will begin 2013 Training Camp presented by Sun Peaks Resort on Sunday, June 2 at Hillside Stadium.

The Lions kick off the 2013 campaign with a preseason tilt versus the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday, June 21 at 7:00 pm and begin their regular season home schedule on Thursday, July 4 at 7:00 pm versus the reigning Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts.
