Late Rally Lifts Bees Past Patriots
Bridgewater, NJ- A three-run ninth inning led the New Britain Bees (29-37, 55-81) over the Somerset Patriots (30-36, 72-65) Thursday night in the final home game at TD Bank Ballpark in the regular season
The New Britain Bees jumped out in front on an RBI single from Jovan Rosa, scoring Mike Crouse in the top of the first. The Patriots responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI groundout from Olmo Rosario to tie the game.
Both teams traded runs again in the second, as Conor Bierfeldt gave the Bees the lead with a sacrifice fly in the top half of the inning. Somerset responded with an RBI single from Yovan Gonzalez in the bottom half of the inning.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning, when a Yusuke Kajimoto RBI triple and a Conor Bierfeldt (23) two-run home run put the Bees in front 5-2 for good.
Casey Coleman (2-2) earned the win with a scoreless inning and two-thirds. Dustin Antolin (1-3) took the loss after he allowed three runs over one inning of relief. Shawn Gilblair (20) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
Somerset wraps up its 2017 regular season with a three-game series on the road against the Bridgeport Bluefish. First pitch at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard is set for 7:12 pm Friday night.
