Lady Phantoms Select First Group of Dancers

March 19, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Palm Beach Phantoms News Release

Wellington's Athlete's Advantage sports center was the venue where local young women converged to vie for a spot on the Lady Phantoms dance team. The Lady Phantoms are a high-energy professional dance team formed to add excitement to the Palm Beach Phantoms, the newest National Indoor Football League franchise.

Auditions were fast-paced and a true test of dancing talent. A lively hip-hop track pulsed in the background while the women learned a choreographed dance within an hour, and were then given half as much time to practice and perfect the moves. The ladies were then judged on precision, poise, and pure dancing talent.

Of the fifteen women who auditioned, only five were selected for the Lady Phantoms during this initial round of auditions. Marylin Richardson-Pryor, the director of the Lady Phantoms, said she was "looking forward to adding seven to ten more talented young ladies to the team," and to providing a polished, professional dance team to represent the Phantoms at local community events.

Marilyn Richardson-Pryor brings considerable experience to the Lady Phantoms. Her career in dance includes several years as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers dance team, and performances with Impresario Productions' "Cleveland Dancers." She has also directed cheerleading squads at St. Lucie County's local public schools, and continues to work as an educator while pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University. The Lady Phantoms offered her an opportunity to return to dance while using her experience to mold dancers befitting a professional football team.

Richardson-Pryor will also have the talent and vision of Joyce T. Hambrick, the assistant director of the Lady Phantoms, to draw upon in this new endeavor. Hambrick owned "Sessions Dance Studio" in Denver, Colorado, which was a natural extension of her dance team experience and dance education at Florida State University. She also taught dance to the "E-Lan Dance Troupe" for three years at Lincoln Park Community Center in Fort Pierce, Florida. Hambrick was offered the opportunity to assist the director of the Lady Phantoms, and her skills and experience teaching dance were an excellent match for the newly formed dance team.

Opportunities to dance with the Lady Phantoms are still available. You can contact the Lady Phantoms at lady_phantomsdance@yahoo.com. Email the Lady Phantoms your name, contact information, dance resume, and a photo, and check the Phantoms website at www.palmbeachphantoms.com to find out the date, time, and location of the next round of auditions. Additionally, make sure you attend the Phantoms' historic first home game against Osceola Football at the Delray Beach Sports and Tennis Center on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 7:00 p.m.
