Lincoln Haymakers News Release
Lincoln, NE "" Saturday night Lincoln opened eyes in the indoor football world by knocking off the Omaha Beef for the first time in Franchise history 59-20. Lincoln is off to its best start ever at 2-2 behind Head Coach Cory Ross. The Haymakers win Saturday night marks the largest point differential in team history as the squad soundly beat Omaha by 39 points.
Lincoln started off very hot in the first quarter taking a 14-3 lead thanks to an interception return by Michael Pace and a rushing score by last week's CPIFL offensive player of the week Travis Ribbing. Following up in the second quarter both teams traded scores with Hanaphy's 38 yard field goal keeping the point spread 14 at the half. Quarterback Chuck Wright found Troy Brookins for a 27 yard score and again powerhouse running back Travis Ribbing dashed 16 yards for his second score of the night.
After leading 31-17 at the half, Lincoln's Raynor Doors Defensive unit tightened their grip disabling any half time adjustments from the Omaha offensive unit holding them to only 3 points in the second half. Wright then connected with 3 different Haymakers (Rhodes, Rush, and Brookins) in the second half all for touchdowns widening the scoring gab late into the game. Travis Ribbing provided the dagger score with an impressive 32 yard run early in the 4th quarter earning him this week's Snap Fitness Road Warrior honor.
Lincoln's 233 yards of offensive production goes back to solid quarterback play and a very impressive rushing attack. Head Coach Cory Ross' crew looks to be coming together in the last two weeks as the squad heads into the bye week. Coach Ross commented on the team's progress in the first 4 weeks of play. "We've got the talent; we just need our guys to continue to work on being disciplined and continue to develop our system because we are nowhere near a finished product."
This week the Lincoln Haymakers have their bye week but return to action Saturday April 5th at home inside the Pershing Center against the Oklahoma Defenders who are 2-2 after starting out 2-0 on the season.
