Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indians entered the ninth inning trailing Louisville, 2-0, but rallied for five runs to win, 5-2, on Monday. Alen Hanson delivered the decisive blow on a walkoff grand slam to finish 3-for-5.
Indianapolis (62-62) had been held scoreless for 17 consecutive innings prior to the rally and was 1-48 in games they trailed after seven entering tonight.
Elias Diaz and Willy Garcia opened the ninth with singles and Pedro Florimon walked to load the bases. Dan Gamache then slapped an RBI pinch-hit single to make the tally 2-1 before Hanson stepped to the plate.
Louisville (60-64) plated the game's first run in the second inning on an RBI single from Chris Berset. The Bats' backstop flared a ball between shortstop and left field to score the run.
The visitors added on another run in the third thanks to three straight hits.
Max Moroff replaced Trevor Williams as a pinch hitter in the fifth, drawing a walk. It was his 73rd free pass of the year - a new Victory Field era single season record.
Williams finished with one run in five innings, scattering seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. His walk in the fifth was his first in over 11 innings.
Josh Outman recorded two scoreless innings of relief, including striking out the side in the sixth.
Bats starter Amir Garrett allowed six hits and two walks over his seven innings, striking out five.
Justin Masterson (2-1) earned the win following a scoreless eighth and ninth while Kevin Shackelford (1-2) was charged with the loss.
The two teams will square off on Tuesday at Victory Field with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
