Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-3) return to the turf inside the American Bank Center Saturday night looking to run their home record to 3-0 and get back to .500 on the season against the first place Houston Stallions and avenge last week throttling in Katy.
Last week the Hammerheads started well opening the scoring when QB Anthony Andre capped off a 5 play drive with a 15yd TD pass to Keith Smith. It would however be the only time that Corpus Christi would lead on the night as Houston poured it on after that in route to an 85-30 victory. It was the second time this season the Hammerheads have given up more then 80 points in a game. The previous time was in the season opener in Abilene where Corpus Christi fell 83-27 under former Head Coach Stephen Fillmore.
"Bottom line, we have to play better", said Head Coach Dustin Almond. "You don't see a lot of teams win when they turn the ball over 6 times". "We need to be far more disciplined and show a lot more effort this week, and we will". he added.
Despite the loss last week, Corpus Christi still sits in a solid position for the postseason. However, the team knows that Saturday nights game will go a long way in determining how much success the can have in the playoff's. "I really believe we can beat these guys if we play our game, stay away from mistakes, and capitalize on opportunities that come up", said Almond.
In addition to the spirited rematch Saturday night between the two teams, fans will also be entertained by Super Fan Krazy George throughout the game as well as a halftime performance by World Famous Magician J. P. Wilson.
Tickets start at only $10 and are available at Ticketmaster, Tickermaster.com, The American Bank Center Box Office, or by calling the Hammerheads at 814-PASS (7277). Kickoff is set for 7:05pm. The game can also be heard on Sports Radio Corpus Christi, 1230am, beginning at 6:45pm.
