Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. ‚¬" The Louisiana Swashbucklers, having gone undefeated so far in the Smuggler ‚¬â„¢s Den, will now go on the road to start a four game trip. The Bucs (5-1) will take on the Rio Grande Valley Magic Saturday at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. The Magic are 2-4 on the season, having lost to the Houston Stallions (6-0) and the Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-3). The Bucs last contest was a 73-6 win over the Louisiana Hurricanes. The purple-and-black gang is the leader in the Gulf Coast Division of the Southern Indoor Football League.

This will be the first road game for the Bucs since the season opener, in which the team lost to the Albany Panthers by a score of 30-27 on March 19th. Head coach Darnell Lee has guided the team on a four-game winning streak to this point. He and assistant coach/defensive coordinator Dwight Hudler are heading into the game with starting quarterback Ben McLaughlin running up some impressive statistics. Against the Mobile Bay Tarpons on April 9th, McLaughlin threw nine touchdown passes and 285 total yards. The Bucs won that game 73-32 and McLaughlin tied an SIFL record with his accomplishment. He was named the SIFL Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

The Magic ‚¬â„¢s head coach is no stranger to the Swashbucklers. Schuyler Anderson is a former player for the team having played five games for the Bucs in 2006. Afterwards Anderson went to the Corpus Christi Hammerheads, having played four seasons with that team. He was on the Hammerheads team that faced the Bucs in the 2007 and 2008 Intense Football League championship games. Those were two of the championship titles Louisiana has won in its seven year history.

Anderson comments on his game plan Saturday against Louisiana. ‚¬Å“We have to play a complete game, ‚¬Â he said. ‚¬Å“We were competitive against Houston and Corpus Christi but we still wound up short. We have the players to compete with the Swashbucklers but we have to play a complete game from start to finish. ‚¬Â

This will be the only meeting between the Bucs and Rio Grande Valley on the regular season schedule. Louisiana will be back in the Smuggler ‚¬â„¢s Den on Saturday, May 28th against the Hammerheads. It will also be the annual Freedom Fighter ‚¬â„¢s salute during the Memorial Day weekend.
