Everett Silvertips News Release

LANGLEY, B.C. - Eetu Tuulola's goal in the first round stood as the winner and the Everett Silvertips, who set a franchise record in the second period, outlasted the Vancouver Giants in a 5-4 shootout victory before 3,015 fans at Langley Events Centre on Friday night.

In the second period, the Silvertips pumped 27 shots on goal, breaking the previous mark set with 26 in a game against the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2009-10 season. Rallying from two separate third period deficits, the Silvertips had a two assist game from Patrick Bajkov and goals each from Tuulola, Sean Richards, Noah Juulsen, and Dominic Zwerger.

Thomas Foster put Vancouver ahead, 1-0 at 8:25 of the first period on a backhanded rebound and Richards leveled the game at 3:14 of the second period when he slammed Bajkov's centering pass from between the circles.

Radovan Bondra kept the surge going at 3:47, finishing a post-to-post feed for a 2-1 lead. But eight seconds later, Tuulola slammed in a shot from the right circle to draw even, 2-2 and cap off a three goal rush in 33 seconds.

Jack Flaman buried a one-timer with 5:15 left in the second period for a 3-2 cushion but the Silvertips kept pounding the Vancouver net, ending the second with a franchise record 27 shots.

They kept persisting and drew even at 2:52 of the third period on a Juulsen blast from the blueline, but Tyler Benson's deflection of a Dylan Plouffe shot stood up against video review and restored the Giants lead, 4-3 at 9:05.

Just 52 seconds later, the Tips had another answer on a deflection when Zwerger cruised to the net and deflected Jake Christiansen's shot past the blocker of Kubic.

Tuulola had a wide open look to win the game in the final minute of regulation but the Vancouver defense deflected his wraparound attempt to force OT.

After a scoreless OT, Tuulola posted a 1-0 Tips lead in the shootout with a smooth forehand deke through Ryan Kubic's five hole. Carter Hart, who made 17 saves, slammed the door on Thomas Foster's bid in the third round.

Kubic took the loss on a 49 save effort.

The Silvertips return to the road in Portland tomorrow, visiting the Winterhawks at 7:00 PT (Fox Sports 1380 / WHL Live).
