Diesel Sign Veteran DB in Preparation for Bandits

Kearney, NE—The Tri-City Diesel is pleased to announce the signing of veteran Defensive Back, Corey Mayes. Mayes a 6'0, 200 pound cover corner from Cal State-Northridge is coming to the Diesel from the Sioux City Bandits. Mayes has been with the Sioux City Bandits the last two years and the beginning of this year. Corey has played in a total of 31 of the possible 33 games for the Bandits and tallied 141 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 13 pass breakups. "Corey is going to bring a lot of experience and knowledge to our defensive backfield. We feel that he has proven himself as a standout corner in the NIFL and are very pleased to have him join the team," said Diesel Defensive Coordinator, Mike Brown.

Mayes is joining the Diesel just in time to play his old team the Sioux City Bandits on Saturday, May 1st at the Tri-City Arena. This is a very important game for the Tri-City Diesel, who is coming off a disappointing loss last weekend to the Black Hills Red Dogs. Head Coach, Robert Fuller stated, "position by position the Sioux City Bandits are the most talented team we will have faced thus far. We really have our work cut out for us, but we are very excited about the challenge." "Sioux City has a good Defensive Line and they play tight man to man coverage to we will have to be on top of our game come Saturday night," added Fuller.

The Sioux City Bandits started the 2004 season off to a slow start, 0-2, but have since reeled off three consectitive victories to pull their record to 3-2 on the season. This game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 1st at the Tri-City Arena.
