Dazzle Players Populate NBA Summer Leagues

ROANOKE, Va., July 10, 2003 - Roanoke Dazzle center and the NBDLÂ’s Defensive Player of the Year, Mikki Moore, heads up a list of eight former Dazzle players that have landed themselves spots in the NBAÂ’s summer leagues.
Moore begins play with the Seattle Sonics in the Southern California Summer Pro League (SPL) tonight against the Dallas Mavericks. The SPL is played at Long Beach State University from July 6-20 and hosts both NBA and Agent summer league teams.
Dazzle forward George Williams and center Eric Chenowith are also playing in the SPL; Williams with the Toronto Raptors and Chenowith with the host team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Dazzle center Geoff Owens landed a spot with the Cleveland Cavaliers and former forward Johnny Taylor with the Detroit Pistons. Both are currently playing in the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, Fla. Owens will continue on with the Cavs to the Reebok Pro Summer League in Boston, Mass., from July 14-20.
Forward Terrence Shannon is on the New Jersey Nets summer roster with former point guard Danny Earl for the Boston league. Former guard Andre McCollum rounds out the eight former Dazzle players in summer leagues landing a spot with the New York Knicks. McCollum will get a chance to play in both Boston and the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League July 18-22 in Utah.
After just two seasons of competition the National Basketball Development League has 63 players listed on rosters of 2003 NBA Summer League Teams. Forty-six of those players were on an NBDL roster at some point during the 2002-03 season, up from 23 a year ago.
Other notable players from the 2002-03 season on summer league rosters are FayettevilleÂ’s Devin Brown (San Antonio Spurs) and Omar Cook (Indiana Pacers), North CharlestonÂ’s Tierre Brown (Toronto Raptors), MobileÂ’s Isaac Fontaine (Milwaukee Bucks), AshevilleÂ’s Luke Recker (Boston Celtics/Orlando Magic) and Jeff Trepagnier (Denver Nuggets) and GreenvilleÂ’s Billy Thomas (New Jersey Nets).
