Chiefs Drop Finale in Buffalo
Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the final game of a four-game series to the Buffalo Bisons, 4-3, Thursday night at Coca-Cola Field. After the Chiefs tied the game in the top of the eighth, Roemon Fields singled home the eventual game-winning run, giving the Bisons a third win in the series in their final at-bat.
Buffalo (21-17) got on the board with two two-out runs against Greg Ross in the first. Rowdy Tellez singled with two down and Jarrod Saltalamacchia walked. Jason Leblebijian then tripled down the right-field line, scoring both runners for a 2-0 Buffalo lead.
Syracuse (13-23) would crack the scoreboard in the sixth. Brandon Snyder hit a solo home run off Bisons reliever Jeff Beliveau over the left-field fence. Snyder's eighth homer of the season cut the deficit to one.
Buffalo nearly added another run in the bottom of the sixth, but Ross got out of a bases-loaded jam to end his strong start. Ross allowed just five hits in six innings in a quality start.
The Bisons added a run in the seventh. Fields and Jake Elmore each singled against Cody Satterwhite. After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Fields scored on a passed ball on Pedro Severino to give Buffalo a 3-1 edge.
The Chiefs tied the game with two runs in the top of the eighth. Andrew Stevenson walked with one out against Matt Dermody. Snyder and Clint Robinson each singled to load the bases. Severino then hit a ground ball to second base that Leblebijian bobbled at second, allowing Stevenson to score on the error. Corban Joseph then grounded out to second to score Snyder and tie the game.
As it was in the first two games of the series, the bottom of the eighth was pivotal again for the Bisons. Christian Lopes walked with one out and moved to second on a bunt. He scored on Fields' second hit of the game, a single up the middle to give the Bisons a 4-3 lead.
Syracuse returns home to open a three-game weekend series with the first-place Lehigh Valley IronPigs Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Austin Voth is scheduled for the start for the Chiefs opposite Jake Thompson for the IronPigs.
