CHARGE COME UP SHORT IN LAKELAND

November 13, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (0-2), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell on the road, 105-100, to the Lakeland Magic (2-1) at the RP Funding Center on Friday night in the first-ever matchup between the two teams.

Three Charge players scored 20+ points, led by Marcus Thornton's 22 on 4-of-9 three-point shooting with two steals in 39 minutes. London Perrantes added 20 points, seven assists and two steals in 36 minutes. John Holland scored 20 points with seven rebounds in 38 minutes. Kendrick Perkins scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and nabbed two steals in 25 minutes. Gerald Beverly came off the bench to add 14 points and seven boards in 23 minutes of relief for Canton.

A trio of Magic players also scored 20+ points, with Wes Iwundu netting a game-high 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting with nine boards in 40 minutes. Troy Caupain scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 40 minutes for Lakeland. Jamel Artis added 21 points and eight rebounds in 40 minutes. Lakeland starters accounted for 99 of the team's 105 points in the game.

With the Magic leading 101-97 and 54.2 seconds left, Thornton took a dish from Perkins and hit a 27-foot three pointer to pull Canton within a basket. After forcing a shot clock violation on the ensuing defensive possession, the Charge had the ball down 101-100 and 30.2 on the clock. Perkins was called for an offensive foul on the inbounds that led to the Magic's Caurpain slashing for a layup to make it a three point game. Thornton's next triple attempt to tie it rimmed in and out, giving Lakeland the ball back and the opportunity to seal the victory on the foul line.

Canton will finish the weekend with a road matchup at the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics) on Sunday, November 12th at 1:00 p.m. The Charge will have their Home Opener presented by The Canton Repository at the Memorial Civic Center on Wednesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. against the Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies).
