Dayton Bulldogs News Release

DAYTON, OH- After the Bulldogs 28-24 victory over the Tennessee River Sharks, the players geared up for their bus ride back to Ohio.

DL/OL Demetrius Blasingame may have been the last player to board the bus. As he walked to his seat in the back, everyone could notice the turf burn still bloody on his arm and that his pace was slowed by soreness. This description applies to most of the players' appearances, proving that no matter what the week brings these guys are in it to play hard.

The Bulldogs' defense echoed through Camp Jordan Arena. The arena is small, which makes the fan noise extremely loud. On a few instances, including one of Blasingame's two tackles for loss, the crowd went silent, making the sound of bodies crashing all that was heard. Moments like this added emphasis to the power of Dayton's defense. Blasingame is reported as having at least four tackles during the game, and DB/WR Eric Samuels recorded five tackles.

"It was up to the defense to hold together and pull this thing off," said Denise Jackson, a member of the Bulldogs owner group. "The defense did their work."

However, not everything was dull offensively. WR James Frazier made the transition to quarterback nicely, leading the Bulldogs to 21 points in the first quarter. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury at the end of the first quarter, and he sat out the rest of the game. Jimmy Smith stepped into the position for the first time, and he finished the game at the QB spot.

Even on special teams, Kicker Jeff Hubbard had a great game. The game marked his first start for the Bulldogs. Every PAT was successful. In one occasion, a field goal was extremely debatable, but, unfortunately, the refs chose not to count it.

Though sore and propped up on the bus window, Blasingame smiled as the other players congratulated him on giving 150% effort during the game. Similar compliments could have easily been given to most of the team that evening.
