Marion Blue Racers News Release
Marion's hometown favorite DL/FB Thomas McKenzie has been named the 2014 Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Most Valuable Player. McKenzie has earned many accolades but never the title of league MVP. His ability to score on offense and be a leader on defense this season helped him to earn the honor. In the 2014 CIFL Championship Game on Sunday, May 18th, McKenzie had one rushing touchdown, one forced fumble returned for a 39 yard touchdown, and lead the team on defense with eight total tackles. Additionally, in the 2014 CIFL South Conference Championship Game on Saturday, May 10th, McKenzie recorded three rushing touchdowns to help the Blue Racers to a 56-40 victory over the Northern Kentucky River Monsters.
During the regular season, Thomas had 44 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one blocked kick, and one pass break up. To the Blue Racers, McKenzie is obviously a great asset on the football field but he is also a great asset to the team in the Marion community. "I'm so happy for T-Mac. He's put so much work into this and is loved in Marion. He's always ready and available to do events or volunteer, he's a great football player and he epitomizes the type of men that I want to wear the Blue Racer uniform," said General Manager and Head Coach LaMonte Coleman.
Previous awards that McKenzie has earned include 2008, 2009, and 2013 1st Team All-CIFL, 2011 Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) Defensive Player of the Year, 2011 1st Team All-UIFL, and he has been named to CIFL Defensive Player of the Week five times.
