Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 on Saturday night in Game Four of the Liberty Division Championship Series at Bethpage Ballpark. The best-of-five series is now tied at two games apiece.

Jeremy Owens opened the game with a solo homer to left-center off Ducks starter John Brownell. However, a RBI single by Brandon Sing in the bottom of the frame tied the score at one.

Long Island took the lead in the second on a sacrifice fly to right by Dan Lyons and added a solo homer to left-center by Sing in the sixth to go ahead 3-1. Southern Maryland responded with a run in the seventh on Owens' infield single, cutting their deficit to one. Jesse Gutierrez' two-run homer in the eighth secured the win for the Blue Crabs.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts, and Green lasted just two innings, surrendering two runs on two hits and four walks. Dan Reichert (1-0) got the win by tossing six and one-third innings of one-run baseball in relief, allowing just three hits while striking out three, and Leo Rosales (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in the eighth. Chris Mobley picked up his second save by recording the final two outs in the ninth.

Sing and Shawn Williams had two hits to lead the Ducks.

The series concludes on Sunday night with the winner-take-all Game Five at Bethpage Ballpark. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05. The winning team will advance to the 2012 Atlantic League Championship Series and face the Lancaster Barnstormers. Right-hander Bobby Blevins gets the start for the Ducks against Blue Crabs righty Daryl Thompson.
