Mason leads Wild to near road win Earl Mason guided the Wild offense to the highest yardage output of the season, and the Wild nearly pulled out the win in Fairbanks on Saturday night. Mason finished 12 for 25 with 133 yard and two touchdowns, and led the Wild in rushing with 71 yards on twelve attempts and three touchdowns. Receiver Victor Smith reiterated his presence with the receiving corps and had five catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Road victory number one was oh-so-close for Alaska, as they led 36-24 at halftime, while holding the number two offense in the IFL to only 205 total yards. DB Darryl Pilcher led the Wild with two interceptions and finished with five tackles. DB Demarcus James led Alaska with 5.5 tackles and was minimized in special teams play, as the Grizzlies intentionally kicked out of bounds for the entire second half. Said Asst. head coach Abe Hernandez, "We really showed some grit on Saturday. This entire team has more confidence and we feel we can finish the season strong. We had guys really step up on Saturday. Earl Mason, Darryl Pilcher, Victor Smith, they came into their own, but it was really a team effort." James has sent film to the Canadian Football League and is negotiating a workout.
James will also attend "The United Combine", a workout involving scouts from the NFL, CFL, and United Football League on June 6 in New Jersey.
