CHARLESTON -- Emmanuel Adjetey, a third-year Battery fullback in his first season under contract to the team, earned his second starting nod to a 2015 USL Team of the Week Tuesday for his performance in the team's scoreless draw with Rochester Friday.

Battery captain Jarad van Schaik was also voted to the Week 16 squad as a reserve. The midfielder has made three appearances on Teams of the Week this season, each time as a reserve.

Adjetey joined Parker Maher of Saint Louis FC and Tarek Morad of Louisville City FC as the only defenders on this week's team, which is selected by a panel of soccer writers from each USL market. He had previously been named as a TotW starter in Week 10.

The 26-year-old from Ghana stepped in as a regular starter in Week 2 of the 2015 season when Opening Night starter Quinton Griffith went down with an injury and has been a fixture for the Battery ever since, making 13 starts in 14 appearances.

Originally scouted to North America by Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS, Adjetey spent two seasons with the Battery on loan from the Whitecaps' PDL team. While other Whitecaps prospects -- including players on MLS contracts -- have come and gone from the professional ranks, Battery Coach Mike Anhaeuser immediately saw the value in this focused, explosive and tenacious outside player. He became a regular starter for Charleston in 2013, returned to that role in 2014 after arriving in midseason.

Facing a profoundly conservative Rochester defense on Friday at Blackbaud Stadium, Adjetey made run after run up the left touchline, adding overlapping speed and quick passes to the Battery's attempts to penetrate a Rhinos unit that is on pace to allow fewer than 10 goals this season.

His ability to get back to rejoin Charleston's defensive shape was also key to maintaining the team's clean sheet. The match between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference ended level.

Van Schaik found himself in the middle of the battle all night and kept the team focused as extended possession after extended possession ended in disappointment.

Week 16 was the 14th week that a Battery player has been represented on the league's Team of the Week this season. Eleven players have been named to the squad.
