Grand Rapids Drive News Release
NEWARK, Del. - Lorenzo Brown scored a season-high 31 points but it wasn't enough as the Grand Rapids Drive lost in the final seconds on Wednesday night.
Rysheed Jordan hit one of two free throws with 1.4 seconds left in the game for the Delaware 87ers as the Drive lose 105-104 in front of 1,704 fans at the University of Delaware.
Grand Rapids falls to 2-5 and Delaware improves to 4-3.
Brown hit a 3-pointer with 41 seconds left in the game to tie it at 104-104. The Drive led by as many as 18 points, but the 87ers went on a stunning 16-2 run to end the third quarter.
Brown's 31 points are the most by a Drive player this season. The guard out of North Carolina State was 14 of 24 from the field. He also had eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Six players scored in double figures for Grand Rapids. Kam Holsey had 17 points, followed by Ryan Boatright (15), Devin Ebanks (11), Sam Thompson (10) and Kelsey Barlow (10). Center Henry Sims was held to six points before fouling out with 2:29 left in the game.
Boatright scored eight of the Drive's first nine points in the second quarter, including an alley-oop dunk to open the frame. Grand Rapids led 69-55 at halftime. The 69 points at the half are a season high. That tops the 63 points it scored on opening night against Delaware on Nov. 14.
Barlow scored on a back-door play for a reverse dunk in the third quarter on a nice pass by Ebanks to give Grand Rapids a 75-60 lead.
Thompson, who was known for his high-flying antics at Ohio State, had a dunk off a pass from Sims in the third quarter. Thompson was the Drive's top pick in the 2015 NBA D-League Draft.
Ebanks had a thunderous dunk in traffic on a bullet pass from Brown in the fourth for a 92-89 lead.
Jordan McRae led Delaware, the affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, with 18 points. John Bohannon had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Grand Rapids concludes a three-game road trip on Saturday with a 2 p.m. game at the Raptors 905, a new D-League team that is affiliated with the Toronto Raptors. They play their games in Mississauga, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto. The Drive return home Sunday for a 4 p.m. game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. It is the first River City Sunday where fans can get hot dogs for $1.
