Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Las Vegas 51s used a nine-run top of the fifth inning to get past the Reno Aces (@Aces), 15-9, Sunday night at Aces Ballpark.
Despite Las Vegas scoring in every inning leading up to the fifth, the Aces still held a 6-5 lead into the frame thanks to a four-run third.
Danny Dorn rifled a two-run single up the middle, Peter O'Brien knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, and Blake Lalli (@BlakeLalli) plated a run with a base hit to left-field to make up the four-run third.
In the fifth, the first seven to come to the plate reached safely - three straight singles preceded four consecutive walks. Starter Allen Webster (@11webster11) allowed the three singles and the first walk before being lifted by manager Phil Nevin. At that point, the game was tied 6-6 with reliever Dan Runzler summoned to come in to pitch.
With the bases still loaded and nobody out, Runzler walked three consecutive batters and was lifted with the 51s in front, 9-6. Right-hander Kaleb Fleck (@k_fleck) came on and struck out Jayce Boyd for the first out of the inning.
Las Vegas wasn't done, however, as Danny Muno lined a base hit into right-center, plating two more runs to up their lead to 11-6. Three batters later, Johnny Monell cleared the bases again with a three-run double to make it 14-6.
The third hit of the night from Nick Buss (@chilibuss) brought home a pair of runs for the Aces in the sixth to make it a 14-8 game.
The 51s added a run in the seventh, and the Aces put another on the board in the eighth on a Matt Pagnozzi (@MattPagnozzi) RBI single.
Webster was tagged with the loss, his fifth of the season. Dariel Alvarez got the win in relief for the 51s.
The series finale is scheduled for Monday night at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Caleb Clay (6-6, 5.20) starts for the Aces against left-hander Darin Gorski (8-7, 5.05). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
