Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- On a gorgeous Friday night at Parkview Field, the TinCaps were unable to complete a three-game sweep against South Bend, losing 11-3.

South Bend (4-5) put up three runs in the second inning, another three in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth to stake itself to an 11-0 lead midway through the contest.

In the losing effort, Fort Wayne (2-4) outfielder Nick Torres continued his terrific start to the season. Torres recorded two hits and drove in three runs. Through six games, he's 11-for-24 (.458) with three doubles and four RBIs. He had an RBI single in the fifth and launched a two-run double off the left-field wall in the seventh.

The TinCaps also received three hits a piece from shortstop Franchy Cordero and second baseman Felipe Blanco. As a team, Fort Wayne tallied 10 hits -- marking the team's third consecutive game with double digits in the hit column.

Right-hander Erick Leal (W, 1-0) threw five innings for South Bend in which he allowed one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out three. Righty Dinelson Lamet (L, 0-1) took the loss for the TinCaps after surrendering three runs -- only two earned -- in two innings.

The TinCaps try to get back on track Saturday on the road against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Fort Wayne is set to throw righty Walker Lockett (0-0, 1.59) against West Michigan right-hander A.J. Ladwig (0-1, 4.15). The 4:00 p.m. game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
