Red Claws' Scott Morrison Named D-League Coach of the Year

PORTLAND - April 15, 2015 - The NBA Development League announced today that Maine Red Claws head coach Scott Morrison has won the Dennis Johnson Coach of the Year Award for the 2014-15 season. Morrison becomes the first Red Claws coach in franchise history to receive the honor.
In his first season as a head coach in the D-League, Morrison led the Red Claws to a 35-15 regular season record, the best record in franchise history. Under Morrison's guidance, the Red Claws finished as the top team in the entire league.
"It is an honor to accept this award on behalf of the entire Red Claws organization," said Morrison. "I want to thank the rest of the D-League coaches for acknowledging our hard work in Maine this season, and Coach Stevens and the Celtics for providing me the opportunity to coach in Maine."
Morrison juggled an ever-changing D-League lineup that included a franchise record eight NBA assignees this season. Maine experienced nothing but success from the start of the season. Morrison and his staff were named coaches for the NBA D-League All-Star Game. The Red Claws had two players (Chris Babb, Tim Frazier) named to the All-Star Game as well. Both Babb and Frazier earned GATORADE Call-Ups under Morrison's tutelage.
"I can't give enough credit to our assistant coaches who were tremendous all season and our front office, which was excellent both in Boston with roster decisions and in Maine making the day-to-day operations as smooth as possible," said Morrison. "And of course, a great deal of credit should go to our players for their consistent hard work and development all season."
Morrison was a member of the Red Claws' coaching staff last season, as a player development coach. Prior to joining Maine, he was a prolific college head coach in Canada, turning Lakehead University into a perennial powerhouse. Morrison is a native of Prince Edward Island.
