FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Friday, January 9, 2015) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced that defender Jonathan Borrajo has put pen to paper on a contract with the club. Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Borrajo, 27, joins the Strikers in a trade from San Antonio Scorpions for future considerations. He is the first new addition to the Strikers 2015 roster.

"I'm very excited for this new chapter of my life," Borrajo said. "The mentality of the club is very positive, and the goals for the future are really bright with the new owners and Ronaldo's involvement.

"I want to win trophies and I'm looking forward to contributing on and off the field in the local community," Borrajo said. "I'm a huge fan of South Florida, I have a lot of family down here, and I'm excited to get going."

In his first season in the North American Soccer League, Borrajo made 26 appearances for the Scorpions, splitting time between right defense and holding midfield.

Borrajo was an active member of the Scorpions defense that set a modern NASL record for fewest goals allowed with only 24 conceded during the 2014 regular season. He started The Championship Final victory against the Strikers as San Antonio captured the 2014 Soccer Bowl trophy.

Prior to joining the Scorpions, Borrajo played in Norway for HamKam and later Mj=F8ndalen, and in Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls. He started his professional career in 2009 with the Real Maryland Monarchs.

Borrajo played four years of college soccer at George Mason University. While in college, Borrajo played for the New York Red Bulls Academy.

"The Strikers are a club with a lot of history with players like Gerd M-ller, George Best, Ray Hudson so I'm looking forward to the new challenge and opportunity," Borrajo added.

Borrajo's signing is the first move by the Strikers new Soccer Director Andre Chaves and General Manager Amaury Nunes. More player signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Strikers kick off the season at home against rivals New York Cosmos on Saturday, April 4 at Lockhart Stadium. Season tickets are currently on sale at www.Strikers.com.
